Schneider Electric Acquires AVEVA To Lead The Digital Evolution Taking Place In The Industrial Sector

On September 5, 2017 Schneider Electric announced the acquisition of AVEVA, a UK-headquartered, £215 million ($280M) revenue engineering and industrial software provider. Schneider Electric will take a 60% majority stake in AVEVA and combine the company with its industrial software business unit to create the Enlarged AVEVA Group, which will be worth more than £3 billion ($3.89B). The Enlarged AVEVA Group will remain listed on the London Stock Exchange. Schneider Electric‘s strategy is to create an end-to-end software solution that helps industrial customers to design, build and operate capital intensive assets at industrial facilities. This will be accomplished through the support of AVEVA’s 3D design platforms, object modelling and virtual and augmented reality technology.

The acquisition will support Schneider Electric’s vision to become a global leader in Industrial Automation and Control and help industrial customers embrace the digitization trend which it believes has been gaining momentum in the industrial sector over the last few years. For example, to bolster its industrial offerings, in 2014 Schneider Electric acquired Invensys, a provider of industrial automation systems and equipment, and shortly after, in 2015 began talks with AVEVA.

The new company is well placed to take advantage of new technologies that have accelerated adoption rates such as VR, AR and emerging technologies such as digital twins. Verdantix analysis of 28 hardware technologies and 26 software solutions shows that there are many interesting technologies in the launch and growth phase that will soon disrupt facilities and asset operations management. With the acquisition of AVEVA, Schneider Electric will be able to provide a unique set of digital asset management solutions to support customers with operations management and optimization, process visualization management, and industrial automation.
