Verdantix Identifies Eleven Innovative Technologies Which Will Boost EH&S Metrics In 2017

NEW YORK – January 16, 2017. EH&S executives seeking to improve their metrics in 2017 should build a technology plan which includes eleven innovative technologies such as in-vehicle monitoring systems, drones, beacons, sentinels, fatigue monitors, mobile apps and data analytics. This is the conclusion of a new report from independent research firm Verdantix reflecting a comprehensive analysis of innovative technologies targeted at the EH&S function.

“Many organizations have hit a plateau in recordable rates and with EH&S budgets flat or growing in low single digits, EH&S leaders need a new plan to deliver a step-change in their metrics,” said David Metcalfe, Verdantix CEO. “Our research into cost effective technologies like mobile apps for safety observations, drones for industrial inspections and beacons for hazard communications finds that these innovations are mature enough to use by all organizations. The impediment to adoption is largely in the minds of EH&S decision-makers not the costs of the technologies.”

The Verdantix report, “Innovative EH&S Technologies For Your 2017 Roadmap” describes the following technologies and provides usage scenarios and example vendors:

• Intelligent sensor networks for hazard communications such as GKD Technik and SiteZone
• Drone-based managed services for inspections and investigations from Airfilms Inspections and Cyberhawk Innovations
• In-vehicle monitoring systems for improved driver safety from vendors like Greenroad
• Mobile devices running EH&S mobile apps from Nimonik and SafetyCulture
• EH&S software platforms from a wide range of software vendors
• Wearable sensors for worker safety such as MINESAFE Smartwatch and Honeywell Connected Worker
• Monitoring systems for worker fatigue and health risk assessment such as HAVmeter and SmartCap
• Virtual reality safety training from Echelon VR, Human Condition Safety and QinetiQ
• RFID tags and QR codes for chemicals inventory tracking from Omni-ID and Vizinex
• Digital permit to work systems provided by eVision and Sage Technology
• Intrinsically safe mobile devices from vendors such as eCom Instruments and Sonim Technologies

To expand knowledge of successful uses of EH&S innovative technologies, Verdantix has opened nominations for the second year of the EH&S Innovation Awards. Firms using technology or their suppliers can submit their project information via the online survey. The deadline for submissions is March 17 and finalists will be informed by March 31. Winners will be announced at the Verdantix EH&S Innovation Gala Awards Dinner on May 16 at the JW Marriott in Houston.
