Sustainability Policy
We recognize that all firms and individuals have an important role to play in reducing negative environmental impacts and specifically tackling climate change. To respond to this issue we have developed the Verdantix Sustainability Policy which comprises a set of standard operating procedures and business targets.
To reduce our negative environmental impacts, as a firm and as individuals, Verdantix implements the following procedures:
- Minimizing carbon emissions from travel. Wherever possible Verdantix employees use cleantech vehicles rather than oil-powered cars and aircraft. The firm has strict controls on business air travel and engages in dialogue with clients in locations that would require air travel to seek alternative communication methods. We believe business air travel at today’s level is unsustainable.
- Minimizing waste and maximizing recycling. The primary sources of waste for Verdantix are from printing. We minimize waste by not providing research reports in hard copy. Our research reports are specifically designed to facilitate reading on a laptop or PC. We have established a maximum of 20 printed pages per day for each employee and set all printing to double-sided. We recycle waste paper.
- Minimizing non-mains water consumption. Verdantix believes that the consumption of bottled water in an office or hospitality context is unncessary. We use mains water in our office environments and require hotels and restaurants to do the same for Verdantix events and meetings.
- Identifying suppliers with sustainable credentials. Wherever possible we source products and services from suppliers with a sustainability policy. This primarily covers printing supplies, stationary, computing equipment and business travel.
- Undertaking an annual carbon footprint. Verdantix measures the company’s annual carbon footprint to better understand our environmental impacts and to identify potential reductions. We use this carbon footprint data to determine the size of our carbon abatement capex budget for investment in projects such as more energy efficient IT equipment.
- Collecting employee carbon footprint data. Every year, we require our employees to calculate their individual and household carbon footprints using the DEFRA Act On CO2 tool. This is undertaken to raise employee awareness about potential carbon abatement options and to align employee thinking with company goals.
The firm publishes an annual Sustainability Report which tracks our performance against the Sustainability Policy.
