Executive Summary

Energy management is making a return to the top of the corporate facilities management agenda, as a result of rising energy prices, new net zero carbon targets and expanding technology options. These market changes require corporate executives to revise and broaden existing energy management strategies, many of which were established during the early 2010s. Critical steps for facilities managers are to align investment plans with their CEOs’ ESG agendas, reset core assumptions on the business case for energy efficiency projects, and refresh energy purchasing plans, given future uncertainty in energy prices. This report helps corporate facilities managers understand the changes coming to the energy management landscape and provides input on how to revise energy strategies in an era of net zero carbon targets.
