Executive Summary

Many industrial firms now pursue digital transformation strategies which aim for step-change improvements in business performance by instrumenting equipment, connecting operational technology with information technology, leveraging mobile and cloud computing, and boosting field worker productivity. To succeed with digital transformation firms need an Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) strategy which provides a network capable of processing, analysing and utilizing large volumes of varied types of data. Buyers should turn to IIoT network providers which offer six capabilities: network connectivity, IoT gateways, device management, industrial software support, network security and data orchestration. In this emerging market, Verdantix found that Arm, Cisco, Cradlepoint, Industrial Scientific, PTC Thingworx, Siemens, Sierra Wireless and Telit are best positioned to deliver on the promise of the IIoT. COOs and CIOs should include these providers on their short lists as they implement their digital transformation strategies.
