Yokogawa RAP Releases RAP4 Control Of Work Software With A Focus On Usability And Visualization

Yokogawa RAP, formed from Yokogawa’s acquisition of RAP International, has over 26 years of experience delivering control of work software that was born out of the high hazard oil and petrochemical industry. Currently, Yokogawa RAP serves over 20,000 users across 30 countries. On January 26, 2021 Yokogawa RAP announced the launch of RAP4, their new digital control of work software application.

RAP4 leverages RAP Cortex, the master database which stores best practice workflows, standards and legislations and a vast set of standardised icons to highlight hazards and the correct risk mitigating controls that maintenance technicians should enforce during their activities. Users can translate their workflows into 20+ languages whilst retaining the language-transcending icons. Each hazards’ likelihood and severity is quantified and plotted on a risk matrix. The pre-mitigation and post-mitigation risk matrices are found centre screen and adjacent, clearly showing how the risk of each hazard encountered on the job will be reduced. All work permits whether they are scheduled, unscheduled or live can be displayed over the top of CAD drawings or P&IDs of the facility. Exclusion zones are placed around each work order to prevent conflicting work occurring in close proximity. RAP4 utilises the robust RAP Cortex knowledge base to manage SIMOPS and allocate appropriate mitigating controls to hazardous work.

According to the 2020 Verdantix Global Corporate Survey, 51% of the 259 executives in operations, maintenance, engineering and process safety roles indicated investing in control of work software either for the first time, replacing in-house or existing commercial software with software from a new vendor or upgrading their existing commercial software. Control of work software has been witnessing robust investment as it helps firms achieve the twin goals of worker safety and increased productivity. Verdantix research estimates the global spend on control of work software to increase from $380 million in 2020 to $560 million in 2024.
