Verdantix EHS Practice Rebrands To EHS & Quality

The abundance and availability of data is one of the defining features of the contemporary business environment. Never before have we had more information on which to base decisions – and never before has the imperative to do so been so clear in the minds of managers. However, quantity can be a problem all of its own, and it is no surprise that there is a surge in enthusiasm for digital solutions that can integrate and consolidate vast and diverse data sets into one consolidated view. This is much easier said than done, and so the most obvious place for many to start when designing more holistic systems is with functions that already share synergies in terms of both processes and operational outcomes.

In our domain, one clear example of this synergy has been provided by the US National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Total Worker Health initiative. NIOSH has demonstrated that sustainable workforce practices interlink with both quality and safety outcomes, resulting in higher productivity, reduced errors and consistent product quality. Equally, high-quality processes and products inherently mitigate risks and prevent incidents. Practitioners in both EHS and Quality teams also see the overlap between their respective functions. In the 2024 Verdantix Global Corporate Survey of quality management priorities, 56% of the 101 quality professionals surveyed said that improving worker safety outcomes was an important factor in making a business case for software investment.

Quality management software (QMS) and EHS vendors have been quick to recognize this opportunity. For example, Hexagon’s subsidiary ETQ has expanded its ETQ Reliance product to include EHS management modules, allowing users to utilize common workflows and data sets. Integrating these business processes provides a more comprehensive view of operational risks. Additionally, Verdantix has seen traditional EHS vendors acquire or develop functionality to support common quality processes through document management, workflows, reporting, incident management and audit management. Since these innovations serve a broad business need, we believe that they represent a trend that will grow and endure in the years ahead.

From EHS to EHS & Quality

In response to this trend, Verdantix is rebranding its EHS practice to EHS & Quality to better reflect the direction and focus of the market. Our research will continue to provide the best available market coverage on EHS priorities, best practices and technology solutions. What will change is that you will see even more emphasis on the broader quality management space in our thinking and analysis.

While EHS and quality functions are recognizing synergies in their processes and outcomes, it’s also important to acknowledge that quality management is very often highly specialized within industry verticals. As a result, we will focus our work on sectors such as consumer goods, pharmaceuticals and medical device manufacturing, as seen in our latest Smart Innovators and Global Corporate Survey. Our aim is to provide market-shaping research to a broader range of vendors, while also offering our current EHS clients more insight into one of the major trends that will shape their businesses in the years ahead.
