Verdantix Benchmark Identifies 22 Prominent Vendors In The EHS Software Market
The sixth edition of the Verdantix Green Quadrant EHS software benchmark study was released earlier this month after a six-month intensive research process. The report provides a detailed, fact-based analysis of 22 EHS software vendors using three-hour live product demonstrations with pre-set scenarios and vendor responses to a 332-point questionnaire covering 7 technical, 19 functional and 11 market momentum categories. In addition, Verdantix also conducted interviews with more than 15 EHS software users and used data from our global survey of 301 EHS decision-makers to inform the analysis.
With more than 100 firms active in the EHS software market, Verdantix applied a three-pronged inclusion criteria to ensure comparison of firms providing comparable products. The inclusion criteria is: 1. Software supporting broad end-to-end EHS software applications, 2. Annual revenue of at least $6 million deriving from EHS software businesses, and 3. Resources to meet the needs of diverse customers globally. The recently published Verdantix EHS software benchmark highlights the extremely competitive environment with 13 vendors–Alcumus, Benchmark Digital, Cority, EcoOnline, Enablon, Intelex, IsoMetrix, ProcessMAP, Quentic, SAI Global, Sphera, UL and Velocity–featured within the Leaders Quadrant. What are the new insights for customers desiring to invest in an EHS software platform or replace an old one?
Firstly, acquisition-led growth has substantially transformed the EHS software product landscape. Verdantix identified more than 40 transactions taking place in the last two years. Examples include Alcumus acquiring eCompliance to strengthen its mobile-centric EHS applications, EcoOnline acquiring Airsweb to enhance its offerings beyond chemicals management, VelocityEHS purchasing Meercat to build out enterprise risk and control assurance, and vendors such as ComplianceQuest and Ideagen using acquisitions to fortify their EHS software offerings. With cloud-hosted implementation as the norm among new deployments, buyers looking for the ‘right fit’ vendor should consider factors such as breadth of relevant EHS process coverage, operational risk functionality, connected worker and digital ecosystem capabilities, as well as EHS training content and related learning and development support.
Secondly, multinational customers need to thoroughly evaluate the quality of international support and industry-specific customer satisfaction. Eight of the 13 vendors identified in the Leaders Quadrant are headquartered in North America. Historically, customer success and technical support teams have also been quite thin on the ground in non-HQ countries. In fact, roughly one-third of vendors in the Green Quadrant study revealed that less than 15% of full-time equivalent employees were dedicated to customer account, success or technical support roles. The good news is that some vendors cited gross customer retention rates as high as 98% and on-going consolidation will continue to strengthen global EHS software product coverage and local industry-specific presence.
Third, growing EHS collaboration with operations will continue to drive long-term customer visions and innovation. More than half (59%) of Verdantix global EHS survey respondents have already fully or partially rolled out environmental digital sensors across their organizations to automate data collection. In addition to digital sensors, EHS executives are also looking to integrate with fleet telematics, stack emission monitors, beacons, vital signs monitoring wearables, digital twin simulation, and other digital technologies to enable more real-time visibility into risk mitigation.
