Everbridge Acquisition Of Anvil Group Underlines The Transformation Of CEM Value Propositions

NASDAQ-listed Critical Event Management (CEM) platform provider Everbridge – which recently celebrated its 19th anniversary – has announced the acquisition of Anvil Group, a London-headquartered dedicated Travel Risk Management (TRM) solutions provider. This acquisition bolsters Everbridge’s CEM offering with additional, travel-specific risk and administrative functionalities, alongside 24/7 global response support for travelling employees. This timely acquisition reflects a global reawakening of business travel strategies in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Traditionally, CEM and TRM solutions have overlapped significantly in functionality areas relating to maintaining duty of care obligations. Both solutions have a strong focus on enabling employee communications, and identifying and quantifying risks to employee wellbeing. The acquisition of Anvil Group in practical terms means that Everbridge customers will be able to benefit from a broader range of risk intelligence sources from Anvil’s Riskmatics platform, as well as market-leading travel management functionalities relating to the administration of business travel.

This is a strong statement of intent from Everbridge, the latest turn in a comprehensive pattern of acquisitions; witness Everbridge’s May 2021 acquisition of xMatters, to bolster IT and digital risk offerings. What’s next for Everbridge? Traditional CEM provides a framework to manage agnostic risk and ensure business continuity and resilience through strong communications and risk intelligence, alongside workflow management capabilities. In practical terms, the technology offering has moved from being focused on public warning and mass notification solutions, to integrating these into a broader CEM platform characterized by end-to-end management of risk events; now CEM suppliers seek to strengthen ties with underlying business processes such as travel.

Everbridge’s recent market moves suggest that it is gearing up for the next evolution in Critical Event Management, by offering specific solutions to manage distinct risk types, supported by the overarching CEM platform. With strong offerings relating to maintaining duty of care, the digital/physical nexus, and now travel risk management, keep your eyes peeled for the next strategic move from Everbridge.
