Octave Live OnTour Munich: Octave Announces Its Shift Towards A Platform Framework
Live OnTour Munich was industrial software provider Octave’s first major European customer event following its Hexagon divestiture. Taking place just before the vendor’s Q3 results announcement, and following the guidance cut from its Q1 report, Octave needed to show a concrete roadmap for its products going into 2027. Now a public company, the vendor has minimal wiggle room for future target misses – so a lot is riding on the future success of new solutions and market positioning.
Industrials need ways to make better use of their data
Industrial organizations are facing a pivotal challenge: consolidating decades of siloed engineering and operational data in a contextualized and usable format for AI tools. Octave CEO Mattias Stenberg addressed this in his keynote speech, reporting that 96% of engineering and construction data currently go unused. Octave’s newly announced platform aims to tackle this by connecting all of a firm’s data together and feeding them into a rapidly developing agentic AI orchestration layer.
Drilling down into the specifics of the new offering, the Octave platform is built on five layers:
- Connectivity and governance: secure, governed IT/OT and AI ecosystem connectivity, with Databridge Pro’s approximately 200 connectors reaching the systems of record where customer data already live.
- The context engine: a new per-customer industrial knowledge graph giving every agent and app a shared understanding of the customer’s world.
- Domain engines: solving complex problems across Octave’s Design, Build, Operate and Protect workflows.
- Agentic workflows: industrial-grade AI that reasons, orchestrates and acts across systems.
- Octave Experience: a unified, AI-native, role-based interface.
The alignment is as much for the vendor itself as for its customers, pulling its disparate product lines into a single GTM narrative and solution positioning. The context engine is seeded from Octave’s own applications and can ingest third-party systems while exposed through MCP, thus enabling write-back into systems of record. This lets the platform sit on top of the systems customers already own, unifying the Design, Build, Operate and Maintain elements of Octave’s portfolio.
Agentic AI frameworks were a focal point of the event
The Octave platform’s agentic AI framework was a clear focus of the event, with the provider’s higher-level, cross-platform copilot Aria (designed to support natural language queries across assets, work orders and parts, consult SOPs, and generate schedules), featured less prominently in the messaging. This reflects broader market dynamics, as copilot-style capabilities are increasingly viewed as a baseline expectation and buyers are looking for vendors to demonstrate how these tools translate into everyday operational value.
Competitors have already moved beyond announcements to make AI-enabled functionality available to customers. IFS, for example, highlighted a number of capabilities at its Orlando industry event in the same week as Live OnTour Munich:
- IFS Intelligence’s natural language copilot.
- Nexus Black's rapidly deployed AI-native agentic applications.
- Loops-powered digital workers that now form agent crews.
- Interoperability with Siemens’s Intelligence Center X to create closed-loop workflows across engineering, operations and maintenance.
The Octave platform’s differentiation in this space is not its current AI functionality, but the end-to-end life cycle and data coverage that Octave can access. The vendor’s Build product pillar (comprised of Loop, Onsite and Sequence) cleanly links design to operation, allowing Octave to leverage the deep industry-specific data and knowledge bases already captured within its tools. It also benefits from a highly sticky customer base – with 97% gross retention – helping to keep this data foundation in place.
The platform is still in development and preview with clients enrolled in CoLabs, a collaborative, customer-led innovation programme, with Octave announcing that platform GA is likely during Q1 of 2027. Overall, Octave’s data coverage across its customers’ full asset life cycle will be what is presented as the core differentiator for its new platform and AI tools, but its success will be dependent on how rapidly it can build out functionality, as competitors are already piloting and deploying solutions with customers. Stay tuned for Verdantix’s upcoming blog further covering the Octave Live OnTour Munich event, where we explore how the new platform may give Octave an opportunity to win a bigger share of customer wallet.
