ASUENE’s $87 Million Funding Signals APAC’s Rising Influence In Sustainability Reporting, Supply Chain And Carbon Management Software
On July 24, Japanese carbon management software provider ASUENE raised $87 million in Series D funding, led by Decarbonization Partners, the climate investment joint venture established by BlackRock and Temasek. ASUENE plans to use the capital to fund international M&A, accelerate AI development and expand across North America, Europe and Asia. The round marks Decarbonization Partners’s first investment in a Japan-headquartered vendor, indicating growing interest amongst the global sustainability reporting, supply chain and carbon management software markets in APAC.
The investment comes at a time when organizations are struggling to obtain reliable emissions data from their suppliers. Verdantix research finds that collecting such data from the supply chain is one of the most complex and time-consuming challenges for sustainability leaders. At the same time, building better connections between corporate sustainability strategy and initiatives at the operational level is the most important decarbonization goal.
APAC emerges as a growth hub for sustainability, supply chains and carbon management software
ASUENE’s funding signals a geographic shift in the supply chain sustainability, reporting and carbon management software market, which has historically been dominated by North American and European vendors. Asia's manufacturing base sits at the centre of global supply chains, making the region disproportionately exposed to growing demands for Scope 3 emissions data and product carbon footprint (PCF) disclosures from European and North American buyers. At the same time, regulations such as the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and mandatory sustainability reporting disclosures in Japan increase the financial importance of emissions data, as organizations across Asia face mounting pressure to measure, verify and disclose their carbon footprints.
These dynamics are translating into stronger demand for software solutions for a variety of sustainability uses cases. For example, in its latest market size and forecast analysis, Verdantix projects that the Asian carbon management software market will grow faster than the global average over the coming years, reflecting both increasing regulatory pressure and rising demand from export-oriented manufacturers seeking to meet customer and supply chain requirements.
AI and platform consolidation are reshaping sustainability software markets
For ASUENE, the fundraising builds on an M&A-led strategy that reflects its distinctly global strategy and broadens its position beyond carbon accounting into a wider sustainability software platform. ASUENE’s recent acquisitions have added enterprise system integration through Anyflow, real-time emissions measurement and energy management through NZero, and operational emissions and methane management through Iconic Air. The latest deal, for UK-based Secaro, extends this strategy into supplier sustainability data collection, PCF workflows and supplier decarbonization programmes.
For the market, ASUENE's investment and acquisition underscore the growing demand for integrated digital solutions that combine carbon accounting and sustainability reporting capabilities to address complex global reporting obligations across the supply chain. AI-powered technologies, including generative and agentic AI, will accelerate the adoption of integrated carbon accounting and supply chain sustainability solutions, by automating data collection, orchestration and analysis across multiple entities. This will enhance the accessibility, usability and strategic value of sustainability and carbon emissions data, driving business resilience and sustainable performance across the supply chain.
