EcoOnline Continues Its Strategic Growth Towards Becoming An End-To-End EHS Solution With The Acquisition Of Engage EHS

On January 22 2021, EHS and chemical management software vendor EcoOnline announced that it had acquired Engage EHS, a Irish-based safety management software firm with a strong focus on mobility and risk management. Headquartered in Dublin, Engage EHS (formerly known as Effective Software) delivers a cloud-based platform to over 150 firms across the UK and focuses heavily on engaging workers as a means to improving health and safety at its customers’ workplaces. With this acquisition, EcoOnline brings in 30 experienced members to further support its focus on continuous innovation.

Since its founding in 2000, EcoOnline has grown from a well-established chemical management software in the Nordic region to offering comprehensive EHS solutions to the US and greater European markets while serving 6,500 customers across 85 industries. Over the last 2 years EcoOnline has grown rapidly, driven, in part, by new capital injection from Summa Equity’s Fund II and Goldman Sachs Merchant Banking Division in April 2020. On July 29^th 2020, EcoOnline acquired EHS software vendor Airsweb further expanding its EHS product capability and regional presence. These acquisitions and product developments have helped position EcoOnline as a leading vendor in the Nordic countries, UK and Ireland.

What does the Engage EHS acquisition by EcoOnline mean for the market? This acquisition highlights the heavy M&A activity which has been witnessed in the EHS software market with over 40 transactions occurring in the last two years. More and more vendors are increasingly looking at strategic acquisitions to help develop comprehensive EHS platforms and create unified solutions covering multiple functional areas. For example, with EcoOnline, their M&A activity has focused on developing their innovation capabilities and growing their solutions teams with experienced market players. The 2021 Verdantix Green Quadrant identified 21 such vendors, of which EcoOnline was counted, that offered broad end-to-end EHS software applications. Vendors will continue to invest in their product to meet consumers growing demand for digital EHS solutions and carve out a position in an expansive software landscape.
