Customers’ Priorities Align With A Vision For Integrated Safety And Operations Software

Verdantix has just published the second annual survey of operational excellence decision-makers. This year we interviewed 284 managers in operations, engineering and maintenance roles to find out about their 2020 budgets, priorities and technology preferences. One data point stood out: 58% of respondents from 13 asset intensive industries said that improving safe operations is a high priority in the next two years. This beat out other initiatives such as asset reliability (50%), process excellence (44%) and environmental risk mitigation (42%).

For our interviewees, ‘safe operations’ refers to both worker safety and asset health. Activities falling under the safe operations banner are mechanical integrity systems, worker competency verification, digital control of work and effective maintenance. APM software vendors such as AVEVA and GE Digital as well as large EHS software vendors like Enablon and Intelex have product strategies that straddle worker safety and asset health = safe operations. Developing a coherent product architecture which can handle real-time interdependent risks for industrial facilities is a huge challenge. But, according to customers, it is the right vision to pursue over the next five years.
