Asset Management Software Market Consolidation Continues With Aptean’s Acquisition Of Ramsauer & Stürmer

In July 2021, Aptean, a global provider of enterprise software solutions, announced that it had entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Ramsauer & Stürmer, a provider of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software in Austria. This will expand Aptean’s presence in Europe as well as globally through Ramsauer & Stürmer’s 400 customers. Aptean will also gain 150 new employees spread across DACH region. This acquisition will also provide Ramsauer & Stürmer’s customers access to Aptean’s broad suite of offerings.

Aptean was formed by the merger of Consona and CDC Software in 2012. Aptean raised an undisclosed amount across two rounds in 2019 and 2020 from TA Associates, Vista Equity Partners and Charlesbank Capital Partners. Aptean has acquired 28 software vendors since 2012, with six in 2020 alone. Through these deals Aptean has expanded globally, with over 4000 clients across multiple asset management and supply chain management verticals. Ramsauer & Stürmer, founded in 1984 with its headquarters in Salzburg, Austria offers ERP software through its rs2 software for mid-sized firms.

This acquisition continues an ongoing trend for consolidation across the asset management software market, with Hexagon acquiring Infor EAM for $2.7 billion in July, and Baker Hughes acquiring ARMS Reliability in February. This consolidation comes on the back of multiple market forces. First is a desire from customers to work with a single platform for managing their operational risk, safety and asset integrity. The second is the rise in digitization of asset information for lower value assets such as pump stations, logistics depots, and cable cars. This transaction positions Aptean to grow in the heating up mid-market EAM software space.
