Executive Summary

The environmental management software market emerged in the 1990s in response to firms’ ever-growing requirements to comply with strict regulations on pollutants as well as to manage, report and optimize their environmental performance. This Green Quadrant report provides a detailed fact-based comparison of 12 leading environmental management software suppliers globally. The analysis is based on interviews with 15 buyers representing firms and public authorities with over $1 billion in revenue, supplier responses to a 115 point questionnaire and detailed supplier interviews. This study finds that three suppliers stand out in the market: Enablon, IHS and SAP. These suppliers lead the market thanks to the breadth of their environmental area and regulatory coverage, the extent of their software’s pre-built workflows and task management processes, strong functionality for environmental reporting and performance analysis, pre-built connectors to integrate with other systems and a large customer base.
