Executive Summary

This Green Quadrant report provides a detailed, fact-based comparison of 11 sustainable telecom solutions provided by 12 of the largest telecoms service providers (telcos) in the US market. Verdantix selected this subject for a detailed study because telecom services, such as video conferencing, online collaboration and cloud computing, play an important role in delivering sustainability programme targets such as energy cost reduction, travel substitution and fuel efficiency. To better understand this topic we interviewed 15 decision-makers in US-based firms. The analysis finds that five telcos – AT&T, BT, Orange (France Télécom), Sprint Nextel and Verizon Enterprise Solutions – lead the US market for sustainable telecoms because they apply sustainability as a business strategy and have an in-depth organizational commitment to sustainability that generates class-leading corporate sustainability performance. The report outlines the questions buyers need to ask when shortlisting telco partners to support their sustainability strategies.
