EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This report provides sustainability leaders with independent analysis of carbon data disclosures, reduction targets and strategies for the 14 largest global IT systems integrators. Verdantix selected this subject for a detailed study to help industry players conduct peer group comparisons, understand sector trends and to steer future target setting plans. To further our understanding, we collated data from corporate sustainability reports and IT services firms’ submissions to the Carbon Disclosure Project to build a clear picture of emissions and carbon strategies within the sector. Verdantix analysis indicates that IT services providers are striving towards a global standard in their disclosures. Whilst the sector favours absolute CO2 reduction targets over improvements in carbon intensity, there is considerable variation in the duration and ambition of carbon reduction goals within the industry. Further analysis shows a minimal link between IT services providers’ energy use and their carbon targets, with less than a third of firms achieving real cuts in energy consumption within carbon reduction programmes.
