EH&S Software Benchmark 2016: First View of the Green Quadrant Findings
The new Verdantix Green Quadrant benchmark of EH&S software vendors, released earlier this week, demonstrates the continued expansion of EH&S software platforms across the full range of environment, health, safety and operations risk management processes. Thirteen of the 22 EH&S software apps benchmarked in the study achieved scores that put them in either the Leaders’ quadrant or the Innovators’ quadrant. This helps firms who want to consolidate legacy systems but it’s not as simple as using the benchmark based on total capability (functionality/feature) scores.
EH&S managers drafting short lists need to review individual scores for technology platform performance (e.g. user interface, native mobile apps, configurability, business intelligence) as well as the priority EH&S processes which the software is being bought to enhance (e.g. incident management, industrial hygiene, air emissions). Some older EH&S apps may have deep process-specific functionality but are incredibly outdated from an architecture and user interface perspective. Selecting these applications risks undermining user adoption and value delivery. Equally, there are several highly configurable ‘new’ applications on the market running on a modern technology stack but don’t offer much in the way of out of the box functionality for specific EH&S processes.
