Verdantix Operational Excellence Practice Evolves To Industrial Transformation

The first Industrial Revolution was a defining moment in human history, introducing mechanization and steam power to the world. Today, we are witnessing an equally transformative era — Industry 4.0 — driven by the introduction of new digital technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, AI and digital twins.

Industrial firms are now enthusiastically adopting the latest technologies to enhance the efficiency, safety and sustainability of their plant operations. According to our 2024 global survey of 304 operations, maintenance and engineering executives, 62% of decision-makers have initiated digital transformation projects, while 7% report that their operations are already fully digitally transformed. With the remaining firms planning to embark on their own journeys within the next 12 months, it’s clear that the digital era is redefining approaches to plant operations, asset management and productivity.

Beyond Operational Excellence
Since 2018, the Verdantix Operational Excellence practice has delivered valuable insights on technology and services, helping asset-heavy industries achieve key goals like decarbonization, production optimization and improved asset uptime.

While operational excellence initiatives traditionally focus on fostering a culture of continuous improvement, today’s industrial landscape is undergoing more than just incremental changes. The efficiencies and productivity gains driven by digital technologies reflect a holistic transformation of industrial operations. As a result, our work has evolved to keep pace with the unprecedented scale and speed of change across the sectors we serve.

Transformational change
In line with the rapidly evolving landscape, we have now made the decision to rebrand our Operational Excellence research practice to ‘Industrial Transformation’, reflecting the broader mission of helping firms achieve more ambitious goals.

We want to make it very clear that our research will continue to cover best practices, product benchmarks and market trends pertaining to technologies and services across the entire industrial asset life cycle. The team will remain dedicated to delivering insights that help firms achieve their sustainability, cost reduction, efficiency and productivity improvement goals.

What is different is really a recognition that the old way of introducing our practice is no longer accurate or helpful. Our new name reflects the full scope of our research and expertise and is designed to make a statement about the profound changes taking place in the asset-heavy firms with which we work. It is a statement of ambition: not so much on our own behalf, but in our belief that industrial technologists, vendors and practitioners are at the forefront of a new revolution.
