Nordomatic’s Acquisition Of Spica Technologies Continues The Momentous Consolidation Of The Workplace Software Market

On March 11, 2022, Nordomatic AB, a Scandinavian smart buildings technology systems integrator, announced that it had acquired Spica Technologies, a UK-headquartered workplace management software vendor. Spica’s cloud-based software products are deployed across more than 25 million square feet of office space in 20 countries in the European, North American and Asia Pacific regions. Since its founding in 2014, Spica has built a diverse base of clients, spanning multinationals, commercial real estate asset management firms, facilities management service providers and government departments.

This acquisition is the latest development in the consolidation of the IWMS as well as space and workplace management software markets. Examples of similar deals include asset operations solutions firm Ørn Software acquiring Rapal, an IWMS solution with a focus on space management functionality and CBRE acquiring occupancy planning and integration services firm Buildingi in early 2022.

What are the trends behind these market developments? These deals reflect that workplace management is now a central part of delivering smart building solutions in an era of hybrid working and workplace engagement. To take advantage of this growing market, acquisitions across space reservation, navigation and workplace experience apps is an effective strategy for quickly securing greater market share. Nordomatic can leverage Spica to extend its value proposition to the former’s clients, who it already supports with BMS, energy and IoT solutions. With this acquisition, Nordomatic gains a foothold in the dynamic workplace management solutions market, and develops a more rounded, holistic set of solutions for its customer base.
