Executive Summary

This report provides real estate and facilities management executives with an analysis of the energy management functionality provided through 15 smart building Internet of Things (IoT) platforms. The report leverages the Verdantix Green Quadrant analysis on smart building IoT platforms published in January 2022 and deepens the analysis of specific energy management functionality. This software benchmark finds that firms seeking a software platform for energy monitoring and targeting (M&T) have ample choice, with all 15 vendors in the study offering a credible platform. The analysis finds that Siemens, Schneider Electric, Spacewell and Johnson Controls offer the strongest functionality for energy management, making these vendors well-placed to support comprehensive energy management programmes. In addition, Energisme and Spacewell offer powerful analytics to deliver fast insights on energy usage and efficiency opportunities.

Susan leads the Verdantix Smart Buildings practice. Her current research agenda focuses on software solutions for real estate management including integrated workplace management systems and IoT platforms for buildings. Her research expertise also includes a broad range of energy management technologies and energy services. Susan has eight years of experience in technology research. She holds a MSc from the University of London in Sustainable Development.

Ben Readman

Analyst, Smart Buildings

Ben is an Analyst in the Verdantix Smart Buildings practice. His research agenda currently focuses on new strategies for corporate energy management and future trends in carbon offsetting markets. Ben Joined Verdantix in 2021 having previously worked as a researcher at CECAN. He holds a Masters in Environmental Strategy from the University of Surrey and a BA in Geography from the University of Birmingham.

Rodolphe d’Arjuzon

Global Head of Research and Finance Director

Rodolphe co-founded Verdantix in 2008 and directs the firm’s research strategy across all practice areas. He also leads the Smart Buildings practice on an interim basis. Rodolphe has over twenty years of experience in technology research and strategy consulting. He previously worked for Barclays Bank and L.E.K. Consulting. Rodolphe holds a PhD in Physics from Cambridge University.
