Executive Summary

Amid heightened pressure to reduce product environmental impacts, the use of lifecycle assessment (LCA) software has become increasingly important for sustainability, procurement, product and supply chain professionals. To meet emerging regulations such as the EU Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) and capture business value, firms are required to comply with ecodesign rules, shift from estimated to primary supplier data, and provide evidence-based claims such as Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). Conducting LCAs manually is often time- and resource-intensive, but automation through software helps streamline workflows and improve scalability. This report offers an innovation benchmark of 13 LCA software providers, focusing on three main areas: data collection and management; environmental impact assessment, calculation and modelling; and performance analysis and reporting. LCA software providers can leverage the insights from this report to understand their competitive positioning and explore evolving buyer needs. Sustainability, procurement, product and supply chain professionals can use the findings to evaluate solution maturity, assess their current and future LCA requirements, discover emerging capabilities, and compare vendors to inform their software selection.
