Executive Summary

For most firms investing in EHS, the implementation of a sophisticated EHS management platform is the centrepiece of their digitization strategies. Yet for every EHS software success story, there are tales of projects that have failed to hit the mark. Organizations often fall foul of common errors, despite a relatively well-established set of best practices. This study aims to guide EHS leaders through the preliminary steps that set the correct precedent for software implementation projects. The report highlights common mistakes made by firms that are often the root causes of failed EHS software projects. It also focuses on the key success factors of three preliminary projects which firms should complete in order to make informed EHS software decisions: 1) process evaluation and optimization; 2) defining digital EHS strategy; and 3) requirements-gathering and request for proposal (RFP) design and selection.
