Commercial buildings are starting to transition from passive power consumers to using energy more flexibly and producing their supply, helping the power system balance demand and supply. This report provides an overview of the emerging market for technologies that enable buildings to interact with the power grid by reducing or shifting consumption and generating or storing electricity. Based on our interviews with experts across the smart building and energy technology sectors, the research identifies five avenues for buildings to achieve grid interactivity.
