Executive Summary

This report helps heads of strategy, marketing and product at smart building technology firms better understand demand for building Internet of Things (IoT) sensors by industry. The Verdantix Global Corporate Survey 2021 interviewed 285 senior real estate and facilities management decision-makers at organizations occupying mid to large real estate portfolios. The research finds that all industries are expanding investment in sensors for tracking energy usage, indoor air quality (IAQ) and space utilization to deliver data-driven facilities management strategies. Highlights of the survey are that retailers are making new investments in space utilization sensors to track capacity and customer footfall; schools and universities are rolling out IAQ sensors for COVID-19 and CO2 management; and energy-intensive industries, such as the automotive and pharmaceutical sectors, are evaluating expenditure on submeters to collect more granular energy usage data.
