Executive Summary
Firms in the US are accelerating their energy transitions amid rising costs and increasing electricity demand, and despite shifting federal policy. To explore this trend, Verdantix surveyed 51 US energy and sustainability leaders across commercial and industrial sectors, revealing that most firms have defined strategies and dedicated functions in place – but cost variability, high upfront investments and infrastructure limitations remain key barriers. As operations shift towards electrification, organizations are meeting rising electricity demand by investing in both on-site renewable generation and off-site clean energy procurement. At the same time, they are expanding focus to include flexibility, grid interactivity and digital infrastructure as critical enablers of operational resilience and competitiveness, while also opening up new revenue streams. Across sectors, the energy transition is becoming less an aspiration and more a commercial imperative, though implementation still lags behind intent.
