Executive Summary

Industrial capital projects are becoming more complex and less tolerant of late design changes. For process engineers, this raises the pressure to turn front-end engineering design (FEED) assumptions into trusted inputs for downstream engineering teams. As a result, process simulation is shifting from a specialist modelling activity to a control point for improving design quality and enabling more efficient cross-discipline coordination. Buyers are evaluating solutions that combine process-modelling depth with stronger workflow continuity across engineering data, controls, safety and discipline-led design tools. In mixed engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) and owner-operator software environments, this places greater emphasis on consistent assumptions and reusable model outputs, as well as on clearer hand-offs between engineering functions. Over the next 12 months, vendor differentiation will be influenced by progress in AI-enabled modelling and the ability to support the long-term reuse of lifecycle models across connected software environments.
