Trade and due diligence rules add further scrutiny. Under the US Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA), authorities have detained over 21,000 shipments worth $71.8 million in 2026 already. As market access increasingly depends on the ability to trace and defend product origin data, verification – particularly forensic-based verification – becomes a prerequisite for entry.

However, the technology ecosystem supporting verification is maturing quickly, with integrated digital tools such as AI-enabled LCA engines, data-sharing platforms, automated data quality checks and digital twins making verification more efficient and scalable. Similarly, physical-digital traceability technologies including DPPs, DNA tracers and forensic testing are also being deployed to help verify origin claims. Verification providers are increasingly offering software-services models that combine such digital tools with traditional verification, reducing effort and enhancing rigour.
