EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This report provides energy managers with an independent analysis of the results of the UK Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) Performance League Table, published by the UK Environment Agency on November 8, 2011. Verdantix selected this subject for detailed study to disentangle the rankings of 2,103 private sector and public sector organizations scored by the voluntary roll out of Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) meters and proportion of CRC emissions certified under the Carbon Trust Standard. The results of the CRC League Table reveals wide differences in the maturity of energy management programmes, yet the strong performance of the food retail sector suggests that reputational risk has been an effective motivator. Despite flaws with the first round of CRC energy efficiency rankings, Verdantix recommends energy managers should use CRC data for benchmarking energy efficiency performance, and for achieving internal and public recognition for the performance of their energy management programmes.
