PwC Wins Big Sustainable Development Contracts

Executive Summary

In January and March 2010, the UK Department for International Development (DFID) awarded pwc two contracts to lead DFID-funded initiatives in developing countries. The first of these, awarded in January 2010, is the Building Innovation Facility (BIF), beginning with a three-year pilot programme from July 2010 to June 2013. The second, which began in March 2010, is the Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN). It is valued at £50 million ($77 million) over five years. pwc leads the alliances for the two contracts. They both aim to help developing countries’ governments and businesses grow sustainably by coordinating the actions of international public and private sector partners, commissioning research, supporting ‘inclusive business’ models and building partnerships to strengthen development capacity. Verdantix believes pwc won the DIFD contracts because it has maintained a dedicated sustainability team during the recession, invested to capture the opportunities from COP15, and developed partnerships dedicated to sustainability and climate change.
