Software Visionaries Combine Organizational Energy Overview With Asset Level Control

Wednesday, 19 October 2011

For many firms today, even consolidating their energy consumption and spend data is enough of a headache, let alone actively managing their energy at the organisational level. Avaya uses Hara’s EEM software application, implemented as part of HP’s Energy and Sustainability Management solution, to deliver this organizational view. With the launch of C3 in August 2011 competition in the enterprise energy management software market has reached fever pitch.

Now a handful of forward-thinking software firms, including CA Technologies, Joulex and Verisae, are combining this top-down view of energy management with bottom-up control. These applications provide asset-level control, for example remote control of building HVAC systems through a web-based portal, whilst providing executive dashboards with near real-time information overviews of energy consumption, forecasts of energy spend into the future and facility benchmarking.

Recent moves by corporate giants to bolster their energy management offerings, such as Schneider Electric buying Summit Energy, Telvent and Vizelia, demonstrate the anticipated demand for strategic energy management application with combined asset-level control in industries such as IT, manufacturing and real estate. The latest of these moves comes as Infor announced its acquisition of ENXSuite for an undisclosed sum. This acquisition provides Infor’s EAM Energy & Sustainability Management application with the organizational view of energy consumption and spend to complement its existing asset-level analysis and control capabilities.
